Foster City is one of my favorite cities along the peninsula, especially when we start getting our warmer, sunnier days here in the Bay. What makes this city so unique is the fact that this is a city planned back in the 1960s that includes a network of lagoons and waterways– if you’ve ever flown into SFO and wondered what that cool city down below is with neighborhoods built along water, that would be Foster City! A city built on artificial islands, home to many tech hubs and popular for outdoor recreation.

Here are some cool things to do around here:
Leo J. Ryan Park
20 acres of fun and activities to enjoy! There are so many things to do here.
- Water activities – perfect for paddleboarding, windsurfing, kayaking, and pedal boating. Either bring your own gear, or rent some by the boat shed located right behind the VIBE: Teen Center. They also offer windsurfing lessons, but beware of long waitlists! I still haven’t managed to get myself on the calendar.
- The VIBE: Teen Center
- Bocce ball, tennis, basketball, and pickle ball courts
- Open space auditorium that currently hosts zumba classes from 6:30-7:30PM on Tuesdays from 4/2 til 5/21
- Community center that offers an assortment of activities for all ages (and has a restroom in the building)
- Off the Grid foodtrucks (my OGs!) every Wednesday from 5:00-9:00PM
You can check out their official website for more details, and how to make reservations (as needed).
Baywinds Park
Excellent spot to just park your car, walk or bike around, and on a windy day even watch the windsurfers doing their thang out there! On sunny days it’s usually filled with people jogging, walking, biking, and just hanging around. Also, be mindful of the signs that say beware of stray golf balls! It is located right behind Mariner’s Point Golf Center.
Mariner’s Point Golf Center
Hosts a range of facilities for people of all skill levels (I’m with you, beginners squad!). This spot includes a 9-hole, par-27 golf course, a driving range that has grass and mat hitting areas, as well as a putting green for practicing ya short game. I don’t know how your skills are but I would be incredibly impressed if someone hit a windsurfer with a golf ball. Don’t do it though. But if you somehow managed it, I would be pretty impressed with the distance/force you hit.
Seal Point Park
Located at the edge of Foster City, this is technically part of San Mateo but it’s literally located on the same street as Mariner’s Point Golf Center, just drive down like 2 minutes. This spot would give you gorgeous views of the Bay including vistas of the Bay Bridge, San Mateo Bridge, and even the East Bay hills. The crowd you’d see here would typically be dog owners since there is a fairly popular dog park here, people taking their daily walks/jogs, bird watchers, and people absolutely killing the workout game going up and down the steep stairs located in the middle. Catch me trying to get back to the top still huffing and puffing. 😤
In general, you’ll find Foster City to be incredibly dog friendly wherever you go given the amount of grassy areas and parks here.
