5 Cafes you MUST try in Portland

I’m a huge lover of coffee and all other things caffeinated. And just my luck, I found myself in a city known for its coffee culture hosting a mix of different independent roasters and coffee shops. Here’s a list of some cafes I was able to try during my short visit.

Kalesa Coffee

Location: 722 N Page Portland, OR 97227

A new Filipino-owned coffee shop known for incorporating popular Filipino flavors into their drinks and pastries. The owners are originally from the Bay #REPRESENT. Hidden away within the industrial area of Portland, this place shouldn’t been too difficult to find.

Stomping Grounds Coffee House

Locations:

  • 555 NE Division St Gresham, OR 97030 (drive-thru)
  • 21825 NE Halsey St Fairview, OR 97024

They serve full breakfast and lunch menus including freshly baked pastries, homemade quiche, and delicious coffee all made from locally sourced beans from Portland Roasting.

Rimsky-Korsakoffee House

Location: 707 SE 12th Ave, Portland, OR 97214

I have no idea how else to describe this place aside from interestingly bizarre? This coffee house is in a literal house, make sure you check the directions carefully because there are no signs outside with names. The ambiance is threateningly charming– each table is named after a famous composer and if you’re lucky, you might even get a “haunted” one. If you do visit, one tip I have is to make sure you stop by the bathroom!

Snow Bunny Coffee

Location: 1415 NW 11th Ave, Portland, OR 97209

This is a cozy little woman-owned Korean cafe that serves a delicious variety of coffee and Korean desserts.

Special mention: Churn Cafe and Crêperie

Location: 3928 N Mississippi Ave Portland, OR 97227

Owned by one of my good friends, Churn is a newly opened cafe inspired by asian flavors that specializes in sweet/savory crepes, coffee, tea, and bubble tea. Check it out if you’re in the area! It wasn’t open yet during my last visit, but it’s #1 on my to do list next time I’m in town.

I’m a sucker for savory crepes and just scrolling thru pictures on their social media makes my mouth salivate! Especially that Thai me up savory crepe paired with a pandan latte?! I may be allergic to egg and lactose intolerant, but my stomach is ready. Can’t comment on my immune system though.
